February Newsletter

Updated: Feb 9

I wish I could keep this entire newsletter 100% focused on positivity, and I will mostly do that, but I would be remiss to stay entirely silent. I truly just want equality for everyone. I wish that this concept wasn’t somehow so far out of reach. Treat others fairly and with joy. My goal for this year will be to bring people together to create quantifiable change in our community in a way that we can control. I’m optimistic that having hope won’t feel like a foreign thing. With that, let’s turn back to my normal newsletter.

So quickly, January has come and gone. An exceptionally sunny stretch seemingly staved off some of the expected gloom of winter and a large storm doesn’t appear imminent. While it’s easy to sit around waiting for summer to come and looking to warmer weather, I challenge everyone to spend some time appreciating the things that make PNW winters special and choosing to prioritize those things for a bit. For me, I love the cozy elements of winter, I love skiing (please snow), and I love that I can go to the movies guilt free.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

One of my favorite performances of the whole year is coming up! Every February, the Bellingham Circus Guild hosts a series of shows themed “Valentine’s Day”. Last year’s show was both incredibly impressive and had me laughing out loud. They offer an all ages show that’s fantastic for kids as well as a 21+ show that leans into some crude and hilarious humor. I’m buying my tickets now as they’ll likely sell out and I refuse to miss it. See more details here:

The annual Fairhaven Chocolate Walk is back. If you’re a chocolate lover, this is the one for you. 18 businesses and 5 hours of true chocolate time. The 2025 walk did sell out, so it’s time to jump on tickets! See more details here:

This last one is an international event rather than a local one, but I simply have to bring up that the Winter Olympics are here! February 6-22 they’ll be happening in Italy. I love the Olympics and can’t wait to tune in.

ETHAN UPDATE:

The biggest news in my life is unfortunately a broken right hand. I crashed while riding my bike a couple weeks ago and am dealing with a small break in my 4th metacarpal. No surgery is needed and I should be back to full speed in a few weeks.

Outside of that, all is well. Bellingham plunge club has continued through the cold stretches. We’ve been jumping off of Taylor St dock every Wednesday at 7 am and even though it has been cold and dark, I’ve found myself looking forward to it more and more every week. Feel free to join any week if you’re interested!

My last highlight was a quick weekend getaway to San Luis Obispo to visit some old friends. A simple and much needed couple of days in the sun :)

MARKET UPDATE:

The market saw a strong push in the direction of buyers this last month. This isn’t unexpected given that the homes and offers that this represents are homes that went pending during the midst of the December holiday season. The $545k average price seems likely to be the lowest we’ll record this year and from what I’m seeing with my clients right now, the market is in the beginning steps of heating up. If I was considering buying, I would start the process as soon as I can to get ahead of the spring rush.

Fun facts about Ethan:
