Welcome to Semiahmoo, a waterfront community tucked into the northwest corner of Blaine. Surrounded by Drayton Harbor on one side and Semiahmoo Bay on the other, it feels peaceful and contained — almost like its own small coastal enclave — yet it’s just minutes from town.
Semiahmoo is known for its wide walking paths, marina views, and slower pace of life. It’s the kind of neighborhood where people are out early walking their dogs, riding bikes along the shoreline, or heading down to the beach with coffee in hand.
The Layout & Housing
The community is primarily made up of condos, townhomes, and higher-end single-family homes. Many properties have water views, golf course frontage, or easy access to the marina. Compared to other waterfront areas in Whatcom County, Semiahmoo often offers a more contained, managed-community feel.
A large portion of the homes are part of homeowner associations. That means dues — but also maintained landscaping, exterior upkeep in many cases, and community amenities. For some people, that’s a major draw. For others, it’s something to weigh carefully.
The Golf Course & Resort Feel
The neighborhood wraps around the Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club, which has long been one of the area’s signature features. Even if you’re not a golfer, the open greens and mature landscaping give the neighborhood a spacious feel.
At the tip of the peninsula sits the Semiahmoo Resort, which brings a subtle resort energy to the area — weddings in the summer, visitors coming and going, and a steady hum of activity near the marina. Residents can walk or bike there in minutes.
Cost Considerations
Living in Semiahmoo often includes:
HOA dues (varies from ~$135/month for a single family to $400+ for a condo)
Potential golf or club memberships (thousands of dollars)
Marina moorage fees (if applicable)
In exchange, many residents appreciate:
Maintained common areas
Walkability
Gated community
Waterfront access
A quieter, insulated feel
Property values tend to reflect the water proximity and amenities, though there’s a wide range depending on square footage, view, updates, and home types.
The Lifestyle
Semiahmoo tends to attract:
Retirees or near-retirees
Second-home owners
Professionals who want low-maintenance living
Canadians looking for U.S. property access
It’s quieter than downtown Blaine and far less busy than Bellingham. There isn’t much commercial activity inside the neighborhood itself so most end up planning big errand trips into Bellingham.
People don't not move to Semiahmoo for bustling activity or a vast retail experience. Its main appeal is peaceful morning walks along the water, the sound of boats in the marina, and a sense of calm.
